Who is AECL
Our responsibility to care, mō tātou, ā, mō kā uri ā muri ake nei – for us and our children after us, requires us to continually restore, revitalise and strengthen our ecosystems while caring for our people and ensuring that our cultural legacy is flourishing.
Aoraki Environmental Consultancy Limited (“AECL”) is a charitable purpose company, wholly owned by Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua. We are mandated to support Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua in its environmental aspirations and enable it to undertake kaitiakitanga over its rohe. We provide a professional and accountable mechanism for Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua to respond to, and work with, other parties that need to, or wish to, work with Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua on environmental issues.
AECL was established in 2017 to support the environmental aspirations of Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua.
Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua is an incorporated society that has the status as a papapitu rūnanga under Te Rūnanga o Ngai Tahu Act 1996. Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua’s mission is to provide for the wellbeing of its members and to exercise mana whenua over its takiwa.
As kaitiaki, Arowhenua have a duty to actively exercise power in a manner that is beneficial to resources.
Our team comprises of Arowhenua cultural consultants and qualified environmental planning and policy advisors
I am one of the cultural consultants of AEC Limited. For me, this is a way of protecting our whakapapa and culture for future generations. Environment issues is an area that I am passionate about as it affects our mahinga kai and traditional ways of living our Maori customs.
