Who is AECL
Our responsibility to care, mō tātou, ā, mō kā uri ā muri ake nei – for us and our children after us, requires us to continually restore, revitalise and strengthen our ecosystems while caring for our people and ensuring that our cultural legacy is flourishing.
Aoraki Environmental Consultancy Limited (“AECL”) is a charitable purpose company, wholly owned by Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua. We are mandated to support Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua in its environmental aspirations and enable it to undertake kaitiakitanga over its rohe. We provide a professional and accountable mechanism for Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua to respond to, and work with, other parties that need to, or wish to, work with Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua on environmental issues.
AECL was established in 2017 to support the environmental aspirations of Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua.
Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua is an incorporated society that has the status as a papapitu rūnanga under Te Rūnanga o Ngai Tahu Act 1996. Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua’s mission is to provide for the wellbeing of its members and to exercise mana whenua over its takiwa.
As kaitiaki, Arowhenua have a duty to actively exercise power in a manner that is beneficial to resources.

I have 18 years’ experience in resource consent preparation and processing for District and Regional Councils; preparation of presentation of expert planning evidence at Council and Environment Court Hearings; preparation of legal affidavits for Judicial Review applications to the High Court; plan development; spatial planning; policy development and review; land development (subdivision, designations, plan changes); rural and urban land use; freshwater issues; conservation; indigenous biodiversity and ecosystems; and Ngāi Tahu cultural values including the preparation of Cultural Impact Assessment reports.
Treena Davidson
I am a full member of the NZ Planning Institute with over 20 years of experience in both local and central government in various policy and planning roles including preparation and implementation of legislation and plan drafting. My main experience has been working on the implications of land use on the natural environment, but I have also worked in disaster recovery and adaptation to climate change.
Ally Crane
My role as General Manager is to not only oversee the effective and efficient operation of AEC Limited but to also provide morale and assistance to my team. The health, safety and well-being of my team is paramount. I am very proud to be a part of the AEC whanau and we continue to go from strength to strength to support Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua in its environmental aspirations.
